My story

From building sites to better mortgages

I spent over a decade in the construction and building maintenance industry — seven of those years running my own service business right here in Taranaki. I worked on new builds, renovations, and commercial maintenance projects across the region. I know the industry, I know the region, and I know what it's like to run a business and try to get ahead financially.

When I started looking seriously at growing my own wealth through property, I realised how complex the mortgage process could be — especially for someone with a self-employed income. I wanted to find someone who genuinely understood my situation, not just a bank employee ticking boxes.

That experience is what led me to become a mortgage adviser. I wanted to be the person I wished I'd had — someone who gives straight answers, understands how business income works, and genuinely wants to see clients build lasting wealth.

I'm now part of the Guardian Smith team — one of New Zealand's most respected mortgage brokerage networks — giving me access to all major NZ lenders while letting me serve clients with the personal, local approach that a big bank never can.
